CASE MANAGEMENT ADVISING

Project background

RMIT Wellbeing orginated as a department that aids the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of RMIT students. In 2017, a sub-department called Case Management Advising (CMA) was formed, specialized in helping students with problems that could or have put their academic performance at risk. A student is considered at risk when they fail at least half the number of subjects taken in a semester, and there  are 3 levels of at risk (the highest being 3 when students can get expelled). However, most students are still unaware of this sub-department, and therefore only come to CMA when their results are already at high-levels of risk. Additionally, very few lecturers know about CMA and usually don't know who/where to refer their at-risk students to.

Target audiences

Students and lecturers in RMIT Saigon South and Hanoi campus.

Goals

Raise awareness about Case Management Unit among 70% of target audiences from April to May 2018.

Insights

There are many external factors that can affect a student’s academic performance (i.e: social-economic background, emotional factors, disabilities, etc). However, for students, being at risk is an embarrassment since it indicates their academic incapability. Most of them tend to ask for advice from those that are close to them, who usually lack the knowledge about academic at risk situations, and therefore can’t help them nor direct them to the proper resources.

Key message

CMA is a companion that will accompany and guide students throughout their academic journey.

Big idea

The guiding compass.

Tactics

  1. Social media

In the first phase, RMIT Wellbeing's fanpage was used to announce the establishment and functions of CMA to all RMIT students and staffs on Facebook.

In the second phase, details about the offline events and re-cap was updated regularly to maintain engagement for the the Facebook page.

    2. Email & signage

Our team also collaborated with RMIT's Press Office to include CMA in the students & lecturers' newsletter. On campus, digital screens were booked to showcase CMA's signage.

   3. Class visits & Offline event

Our team will visit classrooms and provide lecturers from all department with flyers and promotional products so they can be reminded of CMA later on. In addition to lecturers, all students were provided with CMA flyers and detail explanation of how to engage in the mini game: Sticker hunt.

Sticker hunt: Each player is given a map and blank spaces to fill in with stickers of different RMIT departments. The stickers are distributed around RMIT, and by filling in the map, students will be educated about the names and functions of all departments in RMIT, especially Case Management Advising.
